Mickelson recently made headlines by settling a bet with YouTube golf celebrity Grant Horvat in an unconventional way—by wearing joggers to the Open Championship. The bet’s terms stipulated that if Mickelson lost, he would wear joggers; if he won, Horvat would buy a year’s supply of Mickelson’s Wellness coffee for a viewer.
Mickelson, spotting Horvat five strokes, lost the match, which was featured on both their social media channels.
Mickelson’s YouTube channel, launched in 2022 and named Phil Mickelson and the HyFlyers, has garnered 71,000 subscribers. Meanwhile, Horvat’s decade-old channel boasts 724,000 subscribers, making him one of the most popular figures in YouTube golf.
The match video has amassed 1.8 million views across their two channels.
Mickelson, the 2013 Open Champion, was also the runner-up to Henrik Stenson in 2016 at Royal Troon in one of the most memorable duels in major championship history. Mickelson shot an impressive 65, but Stenson’s remarkable Sunday 63 clinched the victory. The pair finished far ahead of the rest of the field, with Mickelson 11 strokes clear of third place.
