Seattle has made a habit of making the third period harder than it needs to be. Tuesday the Kraken led Detroit 3-0 after two and won in a shootout, 4-3. Thursday they carried a 3-1 lead into the third against Utah, watched it disappear, and still won 5-3. Mackie Samoskevich scored with 5:25 left. Frederick Gaudreau added an empty-netter with a minute to go, his team-leading sixth.
Two goals in the third were taken off the board on offside challenges, one for each side, and the game sat at 3-3 because of it. Bobby McMann stole the puck near center and the night tilted back. Jordan Eberle and Brandon Montour each had a goal and an assist. Matty Beniers scored. Philipp Grubauer made 33 saves. Logan Cooley scored twice for Utah. Vincent Trocheck scored once. Seattle is 7-3-1. Utah is 7-4-0.
A win after you give the lead away is still a win. It is also the second time in a week the Kraken have asked their building to sit through a collapse before the result. At some point the third period has to arrive with the lead intact.
