Colorado had lost two straight on the road and needed a home game to look like itself. Nathan MacKinnon provided a goal and three assists. Nazem Kadri scored his first of the season. The Avalanche beat Tampa Bay 6-3. Devon Toews, Fedor Svechkov, Artturi Lehkonen and Martin Necas scored the others. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 31 shots.
Nikita Kucherov was held off the sheet. He sits on 1,137 career points, tied with Steven Stamkos for the most in Lightning history, and he will have to wait for the record. Jake Guentzel scored twice. Charles-Edouard D'Astous scored once. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 18 of 23, including a MacKinnon shot that hit him in the mask. Guentzel's second goal, with 42.7 seconds left in the second, made it 4-2. Colorado challenged for a missed stoppage and lost the challenge. The three-game Tampa winning streak is over.
A record that does not move is its own kind of night. Kucherov was in the building and the point was not. MacKinnon made sure the scoreboard moved instead.
