Toronto needed a goal with the Rangers about to go on a power play, and Troy Stecher supplied it. He took a pass from Morgan Rielly and beat Dylan Garand high with 26.3 seconds left. The Maple Leafs won 5-4, their third straight. Garand had made 31 saves. It was not quite enough.

Brandon Duhaime had a goal and two assists. Teddy Blueger, Kirill Marchenko and Easton Cowan scored. Blueger also assisted. Zack MacEwen had two assists. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 21 shots, and the win was the 459th of his career, tying Henrik Lundqvist for the most by a goalie born outside North America. The man whose record he matched played his career in the other sweater.

Mika Zibanejad had a goal and an assist for New York. Oliver Bjorkstrand, Tye Kartye and Alexis Lafreniere scored. Adam Fox had four assists. The Rangers are 7-4-1 and still left a point in Toronto because of one shot on a delayed call. The Leafs are 6-4-2. The record Bobrovsky tied will get the headline in a lot of places. Stecher's shot is why the win exists.
