Three nights after overtime in Dallas cost them a second point, the Bruins treated a Thursday night in Boston like a clearing of the throat. Michael DiPietro made 28 saves for the first shutout of his career. David Pastrnak scored twice and added two assists. Nashville left with a 6-0 loss and a goalie, Justus Annunen, who had stopped 25 shots in his first start since last season.
Boston led 3:49 in. Pastrnak found Casey Mittelstadt across the ice and Mittelstadt beat Annunen short side. Elias Lindholm made it 2-0 on the power play later in the first. Pastrnak scored his own midway through the second. Charlie McAvoy finished with a career-high four assists. JJ Peterka and Mark Kastelic scored too. Pastrnak now leads the Bruins with six goals and 10 assists.
The Bruins are 6-0-1 in their last seven. The only loss in that stretch is the overtime defeat in Dallas that ended the road trip. Nashville has lost four of five. A shutout at home does not fix a season. It does tell a building that Tuesday's ending was a point, not a trend.
