Kevin Lankinen gave up three goals in the first nine minutes. That was the game, even though it lasted another 51. Lucas Raymond scored twice and added an assist, Detroit won 5-2, and Vancouver's losing streak reached nine. The Canucks are 2-9-1. The Red Wings are 4-3-3.
William Wallinder, Michael Rasmussen and Emmitt Finnie scored the other Detroit goals. Victor Arvidsson and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard each had two assists. John Gibson stopped four of the five shots he faced and left with an upper-body injury. Michal Postava started the third period, stopped all seven shots he saw, and made his NHL debut in a game his team already led. Jonathan Lekkerimaki had a goal and an assist for Vancouver. Elias Pettersson scored on a first-period power play, his fourth of the season. Lankinen finished with 26 saves, which is a decent number attached to a bad start.
Nine in a row is no longer a slump you explain with one bad goalie night. The first nine minutes just made it obvious. Detroit got the win, then had to find out what Gibson's night actually cost them.
