Anthony Edwards opened with a three, then missed his next 10 shots. He finished 5 of 23, 2 of 9 from deep, for 15 points. Two nights earlier in Miami he had scored 45. Orlando did the job on him. Minnesota won 115-93 anyway, because the Timberwolves treated the backboard like it was theirs. They outrebounded the Magic 60-43, won the offensive glass 21-8, and turned that into 17 second-chance points. For a stretch Orlando did not get an offensive rebound at all.
Jaden McDaniels matched Edwards at 15. Rudy Gobert had 14 points and nine rebounds. Minnesota is 2-0, its best start in five years. Wendell Carter Jr. had 20 and nine for Orlando, which is 0-2 after losing the opener at home to Atlanta and then this. Sean Sweeney's first two games as coach are both losses, and the second one was a glass game his team never entered.
Stars are allowed a 5-for-23. Teams are not allowed to lose the rebound column by 17 and expect the star's off night to be the reason. Edwards will shoot better. The Magic have to decide if they are going to hit somebody first.
