March 20: Volleyball’s New Star Shines at NCAA Tourney

The NCAA women’s volleyball tournament kicked off with a bang today in Omaha. Stanford freshman Kiana Lee torched No. 4 Texas with 22 kills in a 3-1 upset win. Her 38-inch vertical had Longhorn blockers flailing—she’s a 6’2” nightmare. The Cardinal sealed it with a 25-18 fourth set. Lee’s debut screamed future All-American.

Texas led early, leaning on their senior setter, but Lee flipped the script. She spiked through double blocks and served three aces to ice it. Stanford’s coach called her ‘a unicorn’—raw but polished. The crowd chanted her name after a monster kill in set three. Texas couldn’t adjust; their season’s on the ropes now.

It’s not flawless—Lee’s defense lagged, and she misfired a few swings. Texas’ middle blockers got some revenge with stuffs, but not enough. Critics say Stanford’s depth is thin beyond her. Round two’s Penn State, a taller test. Still, this upset’s got bracket busters buzzing.

Lee’s from Hawaii, a beach volley kid turned indoor beast. She’s 18, juggling midterms and mayhem—talk about pressure. Finals are April 6 in Kansas City; Stanford’s dreaming big. Could she carry them all the way? Day one says yes.
